Taiwan Unveils New Low-Cost Multi-Purpose UAV System for Asymmetric Warfare

The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan has unveiled a new multi-purpose UAV system developed in collaboration between the state-owned Factory 202 and private manufacturers. The project aims to meet the demands of asymmetric warfare, emphasizing mass production, low cost, and operational versatility. According to “Defense Online,” the lineup includes a fixed-wing attack drone designed for impact-style strikes on long-range targets.

This unique design is a lightweight plywood UAV loitering munition, featuring a rectangular fuselage made of durable and inexpensive wooden boards. The Ministry of Defense noted that this approach accelerates production and reduces unit costs, a method already employed by Ukraine and Russia in ongoing combat operations.

Officials emphasized that the program is tailored to the tactical needs of Taiwan’s armed forces, highlighting mobility, stealth, and the integration of reconnaissance and strike capabilities into a single platform. The new UAV has completed full-cycle field testing and functional evaluations with military units.
