Earlier this week, a Russian Gerbera drone that entered Lithuania from Belarus was discovered. Lithuanian military personnel found the downed drone in the Gaižunai training area in the Jonava District. Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė later confirmed the discovery, stating that the drone had been located and more information would soon be made public.

Military investigators and explosive ordnance disposal teams were dispatched to the scene. The Lithuanian Armed Forces stated that more information about the drone would be released later. The drone was found by chance during a search operation for another drone. In a statement on Facebook, the Lithuanian military said: “It will be inspected for any potential threats. Afterward, the same procedures as for the first Russian Gerbera drone found in early July will be followed.”
On the morning of Monday, July 28, a Russian drone entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus and remained airborne for a period of time. The Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center reported that the drone was flying at an altitude of around 200 meters, with its last recorded sighting near the capital between 4:40 and 5:00 a.m. After an alert was issued, the Lithuanian military launched a search operation, but the crashed Russian Gerbera drone was not found until Friday.

This is the second such incident to occur in July. Earlier, another unidentified drone (later also confirmed to be a Gerbera drone) crashed near the closed Šumsko border checkpoint, about one kilometer from the Belarusian border.
