Germany Delivers Quantum Systems Vector AI Drone with Acoustic Artillery Detection to Ukraine

German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has delivered a Vector AI drone to Ukraine, equipped with artificial intelligence and an acoustic system for detecting enemy artillery fire. On August 10, Quantum Systems co-founder Florian Seibel announced the delivery via LinkedIn. The Vector AI can conduct reconnaissance and locate enemy artillery positions, with its AI processing data to accurately pinpoint firing locations.

The drone is fitted with the WASP (Weles Acoustic Sensor Payload), developed by Polish manufacturer Weles Acoustics, a subsidiary of Quantum Systems. Acoustic sensing technology has already reached the Ukrainian frontline. Vector AI can detect the direction and distance of artillery fire, extending flight time to up to 4 hours. The 150-gram sensor can detect artillery fire from 15 km away and small arms fire from 2.5 km.

Oleksandr Berezhnyi, head of Quantum Systems’ Ukraine office, told Military Review that the Vector AI uses mass-produced components and is undergoing trials at Ukrainian military training grounds and combat missions. The software is continuously being upgraded. One purpose of testing the acoustic sensor is to demonstrate the added functionality of Quantum Systems’ products to the military command, aiming to secure potential follow-up orders.

The company has also integrated the WASP sensor into its Twister drone. In the future, all of its products will support this payload.
