Replacing the Failed Predecessor: Russia Unveils New Heavy MiS-150 Drone

Russia has introduced a new drone, the MiS-150, which is a heavier and more capable version of its earlier MiS-35 drone. Reports indicate that the MiS-35 underperformed on the battlefield. Originally, the MiS-35 was a hexacopter equipped with 82mm mortar shells and PG-7 anti-tank grenades, widely promoted in 2024 by Russian sources as a compact attack drone often compared to Ukraine’s “Baba Yaga” platform.

However, reports suggest that due to limited payload capacity, the Russian military used the MiS-35 for logistics rather than combat in 70% of missions. To address this, Russia’s MiS Design Bureau developed the larger MiS-150 drone to carry out offensive operations. The MiS-150 has a maximum payload of 15 kilograms, up from 4.5 kilograms in the previous model, designed to deliver heavier munitions such as TM-62 anti-tank mines.

(Developers note that while the “old” MiS-35 can perform “humanitarian” missions, its primary role is strike tasks such as delivering TM-62 mines.)

In comparison, while the small drone’s maximum payload is 4.5 kilograms with a recommended payload of 3.5 kilograms, the MiS-150 increases the maximum payload to 15 kilograms and extends the range from 9 kilometers to 12 kilometers.

Notably, the MiS-150 will be equipped with an automatic “guidance” system allowing the drone to evade electronic warfare systems.
